How to get a freelance visa in Dubai

Dubai’s attempts to attract more investors to it and grow its economy are endless. Not only does it ease the rules for business entrepreneurs and international investors, but it also allows permits for freelancers too, granting them the ability to practice business individually in a legal and flexible manner.
UAE residents can issue freelance permits for an annual fee of Dh 7,500 from Dubai Tecom Group and freelance in the education and media sectors. If a candidate wants to apply but they need a visa, they can still apply, however they will have to get a three-year visa under Tecom which will cost an extra Dh 3,250.
The annual fee includes the freelancer permit and access to the Tecom Business Centre. Candidates who are under the sponsorship of their husbands or parents can also apply for the permit without having to apply for a visa.
Gofreelance initiative is in partnership with Dubai Creative Cluster Authority. The initiative offers educators and media professionals to practice freelancing jobs in related sectors by offering licenses in various activities. There are 5 activities allowed in the education sector and there are 50 activities allowed in the media sector including executive coaching, film direction, scriptwriters and creative designers.
The UAE is one of the first countries to recognize freelancers and give them the opportunity to develop their talents and skills and build their careers individually. Allowing freelancers to practice their professions saves them the trouble of having to rent the office to have a business.
The documents required for issuing a freelance permit are:
Resume/CV
Passport/visa copy
Bank reference letter
Sponsor’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) (If applying without a visa)
Employer’s NOC (For those who hold a job)
Portfolio or sample of work (for media sector only)
Credentials and certifications (for education sector only)

After submitting your application and it gets approved, you will receive an e-mail. After you receive your approval e-mail you will have to go to one of Tecom business centers to pay the required fees and sign your documents. You will then receive your freelance permit shortly.
